What a recommendation is worth

Any business that recommends other businesses owes you an explanation of the arrangement, so here is the useful framing. When somebody refers you to a provider, ask three things: are they paid for the referral, have they used the service themselves, and what happens if it goes wrong. Those answers tell you how much weight the recommendation deserves.

Referral arrangements are normal and not a problem in themselves. A referral fee does not make a recommendation bad; an undisclosed one makes it unreliable. What you want to know is whether the referrer would still recommend this provider if the fee disappeared — and the way to test that is to ask what they do not like about it. A partner who cannot name a single limitation is selling rather than recommending.

The more practical question is who supports you afterwards. A referral that ends at the introduction leaves you as that provider’s customer with nobody in your corner. One where the referrer will escalate on your behalf is worth considerably more, and it is worth establishing which of the two you are getting before you sign anything.

Then do the basic checks yourself regardless of who sent you: published pricing, readable terms, a contract length you are comfortable with, and a clear answer about what happens to your data and your money if you leave. A recommendation from somebody you trust is a reason to look seriously, not a reason to skip the reading.

Where we stand: we will tell you when we have a commercial relationship with a provider we mention, we will tell you what we think its limitations are, and we will escalate on your behalf where we can. Book a call and ask directly — it is a fair question and you should get a straight answer.
