Business Email

Setting it up, keeping it out of spam, and keeping it private.

Business email is the account with the most to lose and the longest rebuild time. A website can be recreated in a fortnight; eight years of correspondence and a contact list cannot. That makes two questions worth more than any feature comparison: who controls the mailbox, and does the mail arrive.

These guides cover setting email up on your own domain, diagnosing deliverability problems, understanding what encryption does and does not do, and the day-to-day questions that come up once it is running.

Where LiberationTek fits

Liberation Email runs on mail servers we operate ourselves, so nothing about your mailbox depends on a platform whose policies can change. Migration from an existing provider is included.

Frequently asked questions

Because an address at a free provider ties your business identity to an account you do not control, and it reads as less established to customers. A domain address moves with you between providers; a free one does not.

Almost always authentication. If SPF, DKIM and DMARC records are missing or misconfigured, receiving servers cannot verify that mail claiming to be from your domain really is. Content and sending reputation matter too, but authentication is where to look first.

In transit between most modern servers, yes. At rest on the provider’s systems, usually in a way the provider can reverse. End-to-end encryption, where nobody but sender and recipient can read the message, requires both sides to use it and is rarer than the marketing suggests.

One per person, plus shared addresses for functions like sales or support. Shared addresses should be aliases or shared mailboxes rather than accounts several people log into, because a shared password is both a security problem and an audit problem.

Yes, if the mailboxes are copied before the MX records change and a final sync runs afterwards. Mail is lost when the records are switched first, which is why the order matters more than the tooling.
