GoDaddy — removed AR15.com, January 2021
GoDaddy publicly confirmed it told AR15.com, then the largest firearms forum online, to take its domain elsewhere. Losing a registrar takes your website, your store and your email down at the same moment.
PayPal — firearms and ammunition prohibited
PayPal’s Acceptable Use Policy names ammunition, firearms, and certain firearm parts and accessories among the transactions it does not allow. Many dealers only discover this when funds are held.
Stripe — firearms listed as restricted
Stripe’s published restricted-business list covers rifles, shotguns and pistols, plus regulated parts and accessories including suppressors. Restricted means conditional and revocable.
Intuit — thousands of merchant accounts closed
Intuit closed firearms merchant accounts en masse and reversed the policy only in September 2023, following a U.S. Senate Commerce Committee investigation. The businesses affected got no transition period.
Shopify — removed firearms sellers in 2018
Shopify updated its acceptable-use terms and removed sellers in the firearms category. A hosted store platform can change its terms and take your storefront with it.
