Contractor Website Hosting: The Short Answer

Most contracting businesses do not have an IT problem. They have a response-time problem, a documentation problem, and a domain nobody can log in to — and all three are cheaper to fix than a week of slow months.

Contractor website hosting is the cheap part. Getting found and answering first is the part that decides whether the phone rings.

Homeowners with an urgent job call two or three companies and hire whoever answers first with a straight answer. If your enquiries arrive as an email nobody reads until the evening, you are losing work you already paid to generate. Everything else on this page matters less than that.

Getting Found, And Answering First

Service and area pages that rank

Not one page listing twelve trades. A page per service and per town you actually cover, because that is what people type. This is the single highest-return piece of website work available to a contractor and most sites do not have it.

Enquiries that reach a phone

A form that emails an inbox is a form nobody sees until 9pm. Route enquiries so they reach whoever is answering, immediately, however that works for your crew. Speed of first reply decides more jobs than price does.

A site that loads on a phone in a driveway

Your customer is standing in their yard on one bar of signal looking at a burst pipe. A heavy site built for a desktop loses that job to a lighter one. We build for the conditions the enquiry actually happens in.

None of this requires a rebrand or a marketing retainer. It requires the pages to exist, the form to reach a human, and the site to load.

What A Slow Reply Actually Costs

Take the number of enquiries you get in a month, and the share you never converted because someone else called back first. Multiply by your average job value. For most contractors that figure is larger than the entire annual cost of everything on this page, and it recurs every month until the routing is fixed.

Email, Job Files And The Office

Seats for the people who need them

The owner, the estimator, the office manager and any lead who needs a company address. Liberation Email from $1.95 per user a month; Mail Pro at $7.95 for larger mailboxes. You are not paying for a seat per crew member who never opens email.

Addresses that survive turnover

estimates@, service@ and dispatch@ that route to whoever is covering rather than to one person’s phone. When someone leaves, coverage is a permission change rather than a lost inbox nobody can get into.

Job files, photos and backups

Photos, change orders and signed approvals belong somewhere retrievable years later, not on a phone that got dropped in a trench. CodeGuard takes encrypted off-site backups from $2.09 a month, and the data center is backed up daily with seven days of retention.

Contractor Website Hosting And Getting Called

Contractor advertising and licence-display rules vary by state and trade, and some require a licence number on all advertising including websites. We build the site; confirm the display requirements with your licensing board.

What It Costs

Published pricing so you can work out the monthly figure before you call. Website work is quoted per business because a one-truck operation and a twenty-crew company need different things.

Do the free things first. Check who your domain is registered to, and check where your website enquiries actually go and how fast anyone sees them. Those two checks cost an afternoon and, for most contractors, matter more than anything you could buy from us.

Contractor IT And Website FAQs

Build a page for each service and each town you cover, and make sure enquiries reach a phone immediately. Those two together beat everything else. A homeowner with an urgent job calls two or three companies and hires whoever answers first with a straight answer — so the value of a beautiful site that emails an inbox nobody checks until evening is close to zero.

Often not you, which is why it is worth checking today. In trades businesses the registrant is frequently a relative who set it up, a marketing company you stopped paying, or a former partner. Whoever controls the domain controls your website and your email. If you cannot log in to your registrar right now, sort that out before spending money on anything else — we will help you look it up even if you never buy anything from us.

On small jobs it makes little difference. On large ones it does. A quote from a free email address competes against one from a company address, and homeowners spending serious money notice. Liberation Email starts at $1.95 a month on your own domain, which is a small price for looking like the established business you are.

Not on a crew member’s phone. Before-and-after photos, damage documentation and signed change orders are the evidence in any dispute, and disputes arrive long after that phone was replaced or lost. Hub for Teams at $7.49 per user a month gives you somewhere they land and stay, retrievable years later.

Fewer than most vendors will sell you. Usually the owner, the estimator and the office manager need real mailboxes, plus shared addresses like estimates@ and service@ that route to whoever is covering. Crew members who never open email do not need a seat. We would rather set up four mailboxes that get used than twelve that do not.

Yes, and for a small operation that is a reasonable choice. Website Builder is $10.99 a month. The things to get right yourself are the same either way: a page per service and per area, your licence and insurance details visible, real reviews, and a form that reaches a phone. If you would rather someone did it properly, we quote that per business.

The building blocks are published: hosting from $7.99 a month renewing at $12.99, email from $1.95 a user, backups from $2.09, Website Builder at $10.99 if you build it yourself. A one-truck operation can be running on a small monthly figure. A custom service-area site with lead routing is quoted per business.

Start With Where Your Enquiries Go

Contractor website hosting and IT, in the order that actually pays

Most technology advice for contractors is written by people who have never had to answer a phone from a roof. Here is the version that respects that.

Speed of reply beats everything

A homeowner with a leak calls three companies. They hire whoever picks up, or calls back within the hour, and gives them a straight answer.

Nothing on your website matters if the enquiry it generates sits in an inbox until nine at night. Before you spend a dollar on marketing, find out where your web enquiries land and how long it takes for a human to see one.

For a lot of contractors, fixing that one routing problem is worth more than everything else on this page combined.

Contractor IT priorities in order: find where web enquiries go, check domain ownership, build service and area pages, company email, job photos off phones, off-site backups

Contractor website hosting is cheap. The pages are the work.

One page listing every service you offer ranks for nothing. People do not search for “plumbing, heating and drainage services”. They search for a specific problem in a specific town.

A page per service, per area you genuinely cover. It is unglamorous, it takes a while, and it is the highest-return website work available in this trade.

Do not invent coverage areas you cannot service. It generates calls you have to turn down and reviews you do not want.

Check who owns your domain

This takes ten minutes and it is the most common serious exposure we find in trades businesses.

The domain is often registered to a relative who set the site up, a marketing company you stopped paying two years ago, or a partner who left. Whoever controls it controls where your email goes and whether your website resolves at all.

If you cannot log in to your registrar today, fix that first. We will help you look it up whether or not you ever buy anything.

Get the job evidence off phones

Before-and-after photos, moisture readings, damage documentation, signed change orders.

These are the evidence in every dispute, and disputes arrive twelve or eighteen months later, by which time that phone has been dropped in a trench, replaced, or left with somebody who no longer works for you.

Somewhere central, backed up, retrievable years later. That is the whole requirement.

What we will not sell you

We are not replacing your estimating software, your scheduling tool or your accounting. ServiceTitan, Jobber, QuickBooks — whatever runs your operation stays where it is.

We are also not going to sell you twelve mailboxes when four get used, or a marketing retainer when your actual problem is that nobody sees the enquiries. If that is the diagnosis, we will say so and the fix costs you nothing.

If you only do one thing this week

Send a test enquiry through your own website form, from your phone, as if you were a customer.

Then time how long it takes before anyone in the business notices it. Not how long until someone replies — how long until a human being is even aware it arrived.

Most contractors who do this are surprised, and a fair number discover the form has been broken for months and nobody knew. It is free, it takes ten minutes, and it tells you more about where your marketing money is going than any report an agency will send you.

The seasonal thing nobody plans for

Most trades have a season, and the enquiry routing that works in November falls over in the first hot week of July.

When volume triples, an arrangement where the owner personally sees every enquiry stops functioning. Calls get missed, and the ones that get missed are the ones that went to a competitor instead.

The fix is shared addresses rather than personal ones. An enquiry reaching service@ that three people can see survives one person being on a roof. An enquiry reaching one person’s phone does not.

It is worth setting that up in your quiet month rather than discovering the limitation during your busiest fortnight, when you have the least attention available to fix anything.

Questions worth asking any web company

Contractors get sold a lot of websites. These five questions separate the ones worth buying.

Will the domain be registered in my company name? If the answer is anything else, walk away. This is how contractors end up unable to move their own website.

How many pages, and for which services and towns? “A five-page website” is not an answer. You want a page per service per area you cover.

Where do enquiries go, and how fast? If the answer is “they email you”, ask what happens at 6pm on a Friday.

Can I edit it myself? Adding a service or a town should not require a change request and an invoice.

What happens if I stop paying you? You should keep the domain and the site. Some arrangements are effectively a rental where leaving means starting over.

On reviews, honestly

For trades work, reviews decide more than the website does. A homeowner reads them before they read anything you wrote about yourself.

The only durable approach is to ask every satisfied customer, consistently, at the moment the job is finished and they are pleased. Not a campaign. A habit.

Do not buy reviews, and do not let anyone sell you them. Since 2024 the FTC’s rule on consumer reviews and testimonials makes buying or selling fake reviews a federal matter, not just a platform violation. Fake reviews are increasingly easy to spot, platforms remove them, and in this trade your reputation locally is the entire business. A site with eleven real reviews beats one with sixty invented ones, and it does not carry the risk.

What a one-truck operation spends

Contractor website hosting, a company email address and off-site backups is a small monthly figure you can total from the pricing above. If you build the site yourself with Website Builder it is smaller still.

The domain check and the enquiry-routing check cost nothing but an afternoon, and for most contractors they are where the money actually is.

A custom service-area site with proper lead routing is quoted per business, because a one-truck operation and a twenty-crew company with three service lines are not the same job and one number would be wrong for both.

Tell us how a homeowner reaches you today and how long it takes somebody to see it. We will tell you what to change, what it costs, and which parts you can fix yourself this week without paying anyone.
