2A friendly WordPress.com alternative: Own Your Site
A 2A friendly WordPress.com alternative starts with owning the site. Instead of renting a hosted site whose terms can change, run your gun shop, accessories store or self defense business on self hosted WordPress from Liberation, on servers we own in the United States. Any business that follows state and federal law is welcome.
This page is a fair comparison of WordPress.com vs self hosted WordPress. Hosted services are easy to start with, and we say where they win.
2A friendly WordPress.com alternative questions
Will you host my gun store or self defense site?
Yes. Liberation hosts any business that follows state and federal law, on servers we own and operate in the United States. You are responsible for product, shipping and marketplace rules, and your attorney can advise on those.
What is the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress?
WordPress.com is a hosted service. WordPress is free, open source software that you can install on your own hosting, which is called self hosted WordPress. With Liberation you run the software on hosting you control.
Can you move my WordPress.com site?
Ask us. Our Migration Team reviews the site and sends a quote. The export file from your WordPress.com dashboard and your media files are the starting point for any move.
How much does WordPress hosting on Liberation cost?
Managed WordPress hosting starts at $29 a month. The Site Builder starts at $10.99 a month if you want something simpler.
How do I take payments?
Payments are a separate decision from hosting. See our 2A friendly payment processing page. Our payment partner reviews each business individually, and we are not a merchant acquirer.
Is WordPress.com ever the better choice?
Yes. For a simple site that fits its current terms and needs no extra plugins, a hosted service can be a good fit. The risk is that terms can change, so keep your own backup of your content either way.
Why sellers look for a 2A friendly WordPress.com alternative
WordPress.com is a hosted service. You get a site quickly, and the company running it sets the rules for what can be sold there. Those rules can change, and we do not characterize any one service’s policy here, so read the current terms of whatever you use. The risk to plan for is simple: if an account is closed, the site, the content and the customer records can disappear at the same moment.
WordPress itself is different. It is free, open source software, and you can run it on hosting you choose. That is called self hosted WordPress, and it is the heart of this WordPress.com alternative for gun stores and other lawful 2A and self defense businesses. With managed WordPress hosting from Liberation, the files and the database are yours, on servers we own in the United States, with a company that does not keep an industry exclusion list.
Many owners search for self hosted WordPress for firearms sellers or a place to run a gun shop, accessories store or training business without worrying about a platform’s terms. If your business follows state and federal law, you can host it here. Questions about licensing, shipping and advertising belong with your attorney, the ATF for firearms rules and the FTC for advertising. You can also read about the open source WordPress project.
The same terms apply across our conservative web hosting line, not just to firearms businesses.

How to move from WordPress.com to self hosted WordPress
- In your WordPress.com dashboard, use the export tool to download your posts, pages and comments, and download your media files.
- Choose your hosting: managed WordPress hosting for most sites, or the Site Builder for something simpler.
- Install WordPress on the new hosting and import your export file with the built in importer.
- Pick your theme and plugins. Features that were built into WordPress.com may need a plugin on your own hosting.
- Set up your store plugin and payments, then place live test orders before anything cuts over.
