Why Teams Look For A Slack Alternative

And What Hub For Teams Does Instead

Per-User Costs Keep Climbing

Slack Business+ went from $12.50 to $15 per user per month in June 2025, and every new hire adds another seat.

Free Plan History Disappears

Slack's free plan hides messages after 90 days, and content older than one year is permanently deleted.

Chat Is Only One App

Slack doesn't include email, file storage or documents, so teams still pay for Google or Microsoft and often Zoom.

Questions About Your Data

In 2024 Slack's privacy principles said customer data trained some machine-learning models unless an admin opted out by email.

One Workspace, 20+ Apps

Chat, email, calendar, files, an office suite, video and projects together, so there's one bill and one login.

Projects & Workflows Built In

A project manager and custom workflows come with Teams+, no add-on apps required.

U.S.-Only, Never Used For AI

Your messages and files stay on U.S. servers LiberationTek owns and are never sold, shared or used to train AI.

Private Cloud At 10+ Users

Teams of 10 or more get their own private cloud environment at the same per-user price.

Choosing team chat is choosing a records policy

Team chat tools look interchangeable and are not, because what you are really choosing is where your organization’s informal record lives and what happens to it. Decisions get made in chat. Approvals happen in chat. If your tool cannot show you a conversation from two years ago, then neither can your business.

So retention is the first question rather than the last. Ask how far back history goes on the plan you intend to buy, not on the top tier. Ask whether history is deleted or merely hidden when a plan lapses. Ask whether you can export it, including private channels and direct messages, and what that export actually looks like when it arrives. A vendor who is vague about any of this has answered you.

The second question is who is allowed in. Most small businesses need outside people in some conversations — a contractor, an accountant, a client — and tools differ enormously in how that works and what it costs. Guest accounts billed as full seats change the economics of a platform very quickly.

The third is whether chat is quietly replacing something it should not. Chat is excellent for coordination and poor as a filing system. If contracts, approvals and specifications exist only as messages, the problem is not which chat tool you use; it is that there is nowhere else to put things. Fixing that is usually worth more than switching platforms.

Where we fit: Hub For Teams gives your team shared calendars, contacts and storage on your own domain, so the things that ought to outlive a chat message have somewhere to live. Book a call and tell us how your team works now — we would rather fix the filing problem than sell you a different chat window.
